Thank you to everyone who came to our event at Tarrant Rushton on Saturday June 1st. A memorable day for many reasons and particularly wonderful were all the young people who took part and are now much the wiser on what took place at TR 80 years ago.
Thanks to Andrew Wright, Stephen Nicholls and Martin West for the photos.
The event started with the presentation of Nuclear Test Medals to three locals, Tom Kelly Walter Guest and Ken Spain.
Here, Tom shares his story with Major General Neil Sexton, Army Air Corps.
The parade of troops and standards formed up and marched forward for inspection. 15 Standards from across Dorset followed the troop of Army Air Corps and Air cadets onto parade.
I think this image of the two scouts who have just placed their wreath then showing their respect to those who served sums up our day.
The troop from the Army Air Corps at Middle Wallop recently greeted the King on a tour to their base. For us they were just as impeccably turned out.
The Lord-Lieutenant for Dorset Angus Campbell then inspected the parade, here at the end of the first row of the Army Air Corps and , right, with the Air Cadets.
The laying of wreaths always follows the senior guest, the Lord-Lieutenant. Here, Air Chief Marshal Sir Roger Palin lays an RAFA wreath, then an Army Air Corps wreath by General Neil Sexton and Colonel Fowler.
After the formal wreath laying and Last Post Reveille the parade closes with a very smart manoeuvre away past the gathered crowd who cheer with great enthusiasm.
